Ocean Fisheries own and fish three fishing boats namely the Frontier, Endeavour, Legacy and the Nessie J .

There are opportunities to join our team as a deckhand.

Job Specific training is also provided to the right people to achieve NZQA unit standards towards an Advanced Deckhand Fishing Certificate or a National Certificate in Seafood Vessel Operations (Deckhand).

There is a lot of on-the-job training conducted at sea, and fishing deckhands can gain other maritime qualifications after spending more time onboard fishing vessels. A New Zealand Offshore Master Certificate which would lead a person to being able to Skipper one of our vessels.
